Why Google Business Profiles Are Critical

When someone searches dentist Friedrichshafen or fitness studio Ravensburg, they see Google Maps first with local results. Not website listings, but the Google Maps box.

This Google Maps box is controlled by your Google Business Profile. If your profile is well optimized, you appear there. If not, your competitors do.

Most Lake Constance businesses have a profile but do not optimize it. They enter name, address and phone - done. That is severely under-optimized. A properly optimized profile with photos, reviews and current information can double your inquiries.

The 10 Most Important Optimizations

1. Business Name - Exact and Authentic

Use your real business name. NOT: Dentist Friedrichshafen plus dental care plus implants. That is keyword stuffing and Google penalizes it.

Correct: Dr. Schulz Dental Practice. Wrong: Best Dentist Friedrichshafen Dental Care Implants

2. Address - Identical Everywhere

Your address MUST be identical on Google, your website, Facebook and everywhere. Not even one typo. Not street vs str. Not 88045 vs 88045-1. Identical.

Google uses your address to verify your business. Differences mean: Google doesn not know if it is the same business.

Tool to check: yext.com or localbusinessfinder.de

3. Phone Number - With Country Code

Use your phone number ALWAYS with +49 country code. Not just 07541 but +49 7541

Helps Google and users calling from outside.

4. Website - HTTPS, Not HTTP

Your website MUST be secured with HTTPS. Not http://website.de but https://website.de. Google prefers secure websites.

If your website is not HTTPS, that is your first problem. Contact your hosting provider.

5. Category - Specific, Not Generic

Choose the MOST SPECIFIC category. Not Dentist but Dental practice for implants. Specific ranks better for specific searches.

Google allows primary category plus up to 10 additional. Use them.

6. Description - 250 Characters, Naturally Written

Google gives you 250 characters for description. Write for humans, not Google. What makes your business better?

Example good: Dental practice with 20 years experience in Friedrichshafen. Specialized in implants and modern dentistry.

Example bad: Dentist dentist practice dentist Friedrichshafen best dentist

7. Photos - Minimum 10-15

Google prefers profiles with many good photos. Minimum 10, better 15-20. Photos of your store, your team, your work.

Photo tips:

  • Exterior of store
  • Interior, reception, waiting room
  • Team photos (people trust people)
  • Your work in action
  • Customer reviews with photos

8. Hours - Current and Exact

Enter your hours and keep them current. If you have weekend hours, enter them. If closed on holidays, do that too.

User sees you are open Monday, comes in, you are closed: Frustration instead of inquiry.

9. Reviews - Respond to All

Reviews are essential. Good profile has 4.5+ stars. More important: Respond to ALL reviews. Positive and negative.

Positive review: Thank them and invite again.

Negative review: Respond professionally and politely. Offer to solve problem. Google sees: This business owner cares.

10. Google Posts - 2-3 Per Month

Google Posts are like social media directly in Google Maps. Post regularly: New offers, promotions, team news.

Posts with call-to-action buttons perform better. Example: New offer - Book now button

Time: 5 minutes per post. Effect: Visibility and inquiries.

Real Example: Dentist Friedrichshafen

A dentist in Friedrichshafen had Google Profile. But not optimized. Name: yes, address: yes, everything else: no.

Ranking on Google Maps for dentist Friedrichshafen: Position 7-8. Not on first page.

Optimizations over 4 weeks:

  • Improved description and used all 250 characters
  • Uploaded 14 photos (store, team, treatments)
  • Updated hours and added holidays
  • Responded to all 8 existing reviews
  • Created first Google Posts

Result After 4 Weeks:

  • Ranking improved: Position 7 to position 1-2
  • Inquiries through Google Maps: +35% (from 20 to 27 per month)
  • Reviews: 8 to 15 in first month
  • Average rating: 4.2 to 4.6 stars
  • New patients: +12 in first month just from Google

Common Google Business Profile Mistakes

Mistake 1: Duplicate Listings

You have 3 listings for same business? Delete the old ones. Duplicates confuse Google and users.

Mistake 2: Different Addresses

Website says Munsterstrasse 5, Google Business says Munsterstr. 5. Google doesn not know if it is same business.

Mistake 3: No Photos

Profile with no photos is seen as less relevant by Google. Minimum 10 photos.

Mistake 4: Not Responding to Reviews

Google rewards activity. If you never respond, Google sees: This account is inactive.

Mistake 5: Outdated Hours

User sees you are open, comes in, you are closed. That destroys trust.

Concrete Next Steps

  1. Today: Go to business.google.com and sign in or create account
  2. This week: Add description, hours and category
  3. Next week: Upload at least 10 good photos
  4. Then: Respond to all existing reviews
  5. Ongoing: Post 2-3 Google Posts per month

That should improve your ranking noticeably. For simple searches: immediate. For competitive: 2-4 weeks.
